Bring your Own Editor to Try New Autodesk Smoke for Mac, Says BamBoo PosT

New software gaining in popularity among UK post-production houses

Farnborough 12 April, 2010
– BamBoo PosT, has become the latest London-based post production house to invest in Autodesk’s new Smoke software for the Mac OS X system (Smoke for Mac).  BamBoo PosT owner, André Glucina, says that he has invested in the new software to help extend their services and attract a new layer of clients.  “Smoke for Mac takes us into more creative territory, giving our customers more scope to manipulate the edit and take their ideas that extra bit further” he says.

“We believe Smoke for Mac will open us up to new business among clients looking to express that extra layer of creativity with high quality finishing.”

BamBoo PosT is a small post-production facility with a difference; clients bring their own editor to use the extensive technology on offer.  “We’re a dry hire suite,” explains Glucina. “Clients range from those making music videos or TV commercials to movie trailers and long-form work.”

BamBoo PosT’s facilities include Avid Symphony Nitris DX, Final Cut Studio and Avid Media Composer Nitris DX Suite. One of the main reasons for choosing Smoke for Mac was that it could be easily integrated into this existing infrastructure.  Smoke for Mac can be used adjacent to Avid Media Composer and Final Cut for a seamless workflow, therefore, extending the investment in a firm’s legacy solutions.   Because it runs on a Mac computer, it takes up very little extra space – a particularly apposite consideration in central London where real estate is highly expensive.

“Smoke for Mac was developed to help customers stand out from the crowd,” says Nick Manning of Autodesk Media & Entertainment.  “For BamBoo PosT, offering Smoke for Mac as part of their dry hire service will help give them that competitive edge and provide a real incentive for editors to use their services.”

Smoke for Mac is an editing and finishing tool with an integrated toolset built around an editorial timeline.  Editors save time because they don’t have to leave the timeline to perform advanced finishing tasks with the software’s:

  • Powerful 3D visual effects tools
  • Sophisticated colour correction
  • High quality keying capabilities
  • Motion tracking and stabilisation
