Autodesk Named Best Tools Provider at Top Games Industry Awards

FARNBOROUGH, England, August 04, 2011Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) is proud to announce that it has secured the top prize in the Best Tools Provider category at the 2011 Develop Industry Excellence Awards. The award recognises Autodesk’s powerful art creation tools and middleware technology, which enable game designers to create innovative game experiences in a more efficient way.

Every July, Develop hosts the biggest awards night on the game development industry calendar, with over 500 people attending, representing companies from around the world. Now in their ninth year, the awards are the only peer-voted prizes for UK and European games developers which focus purely on creativity, teamwork, and inspiring innovation.

This year, the Develop Industry Excellence Awards were held at Brighton’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, where Autodesk fought off competition from Donya Labs, Epic Games, Hansoft, Havok, NaturalMotion and Unity to scoop the Best Tools Provider accolade.

“We are delighted that Autodesk has been recognised at this year’s Develop Industry Excellence Awards,” said Nick Manning, Autodesk media and entertainment business development manager, EMEA. “The staff at Autodesk have such passion for the games industry that the award means a lot. Being named as Best Tools Provider also really demonstrates the on-going support and faith that the media and entertainment industry has in our tools.”

In the past year, Autodesk unveiled its vision for a new, modern approach to game development that will make workflows more efficient, iterative and collaborative by bridging the gap between artists and the engine through live content authoring. At the heart of this approach is the future technology called ‘Project Skyline’, a set of game content authoring tools which will enable teams to create high quality character animations faster.

Autodesk also acquired Scaleform Corp., a UI tools and middleware company whose technology has been licensed in the development of at least 800 games across various platforms. The acquisition has enabled Autodesk to offer more complete workflows that help studios develop immersive 3D and casual game experiences more efficiently. It is also helping Autodesk to innovate faster and further improve the game creation process for online, console, and mobile development.
