Michel Rives appointed to OpenGIS Consortium Europe Management Advisory Board

9 September 2003 - Autodesk, the world's leading design software and digital content company, has announced the appointment of Michel Rives, sales development manager at Autodesk, to the Open GIS Consortium (Europe) Limited (OGCE) Management Advisory Board (OMAB).

OGC is an international industry consortium of 258 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geoprocessing specifications.  Open interfaces and protocols defined by OpenGIS Specifications support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT and empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.

OGCE's purpose is to conduct business in Europe on behalf of OGC's mission, goals and objectives.  The purpose of the company is specifically to promote the development and use of advanced open systems standards and techniques to enable the full integration of geospatial data and geoprocessing resources into mainstream computing and widespread use of interoperable, commercial geoprocessing software throughout the global information infrastructure.  It is also to represent the European-based membership of OGC in membership organisations/associations in Europe with similar vision and mission, including agencies, collaborators and affiliates of the European Commission.

Guenther Pichler, managing director Open GIS Consortium (Europe) Ltd., said: "We welcome Michel Rives to the OMAB, which is a critical component of OGCE's organisational approach for outreach, adoption and deployment of open systems for geoprocessing over networks.  Members of OMAB serve principally in an advisory capacity to help shape OGCE's business strategy, plans and operational approaches.

"OMAB members may also be given authority by the OGCE Board and the Member's Board respectively to participate in or lead selected activities, working groups or special interest groups of the member.  We welcome Michel and Autodesk to OMAB and look forward to working with him and obtaining his advice."
