Autodesk® Buzzsaw® Helps Drive €125 Million Road Scheme

A joint venture between construction companies Clonmel Enterprises and Laing O’Rourke (CELOR-JV) has chosen the Autodesk® Buzzsaw® online collaborative project management solution to play a key role in a €125 million design and build contract near Dublin in the Irish Republic. This move is helping ensure that the N7 Naas Road Widening and Interchanges Scheme remains on track for completion within its strict 79-week timeline.

Key to Autodesk Buzzsaw’s suitability for this complex project is its ease-of-use. The project involves one headquarters office on the construction site and four other satellite facilities across Ireland and the UK. In addition, there are many interested parties including consulting engineers, Roughan O’Donovan and Faber Maunsell and clients such as the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the Kildare and South Dublin County Councils.

To compound the need for a straightforward collaborative project system like Autodesk Buzzsaw, many within this extended team are unfamiliar with complex document management systems.

The extensive use to which Buzzsaw has been put since the start of the project illustrates how highly the team values it. The site now provides an intelligent repository for all project information. In total, it holds over five gigabytes of data including 2,000 drawings and assorted, procurement records, reports, correspondence and photographs.

Information on the systems can be shared by everybody - the direct construction team members and sub-contractors are intensive daily users - but access is available to all interested parties. In all, more than 200 project staff use Buzzsaw every working day.

According to project manager, Colin Potts: “New users get the hang of the system in ten minutes or so. We can work with any file type; versions and actions are automatically logged; remote access is built in and the administration of permissions is clean and clear. Buzzsaw is our principal tool for ensuring successful communication of all necessary project data between all the stakeholders.  It is assisting us to complete the project more effectively.”

Underlining Buzzsaw’s benefits, the same consortium of designers and contractors has now used the solution to prepare its joint bid for the proposed upgrade of the M50 orbital motorway, west of Dublin.
